We, signers of this petition, are sicked and tired of seeing what has been dubbed "The Motorcycle Story" in Elftown user's houses. It may have been cute the first time, but after seeing it in every members' house, it gets more than a little tiring. However, we realize that by banning it completely it would limit people's freedom. Therfore we propose this solution: A wiki that has the motorcycle story is made and people who would normally post the thing in their house simply link to it or put a banner up in their house. They should also have the option to put it in their guestbook or diary.
Due to the fact that comments next to names take space we will be removing them. If you feel you must get your hate of the story off your chest then join one of the related wikis and leave your comment there, in addition to signing. Thank you!

We need a banner! Go submit your ideas here: The MSP Banner Contest

UPDATE!

This petition is now closed, since we have achieved our objective. The Motorcycle Story, along with all similar copy-pasted things, are now against the Uploading Art Rules. We will leave all the signatures up as a sign of how many people supported us, and thank you to you all. Here's the new rule:

G-5. No random copied writings in (descriptions of) houses.
Writing not your own is not allowed, unless someone wrote it especially for you (a friend).
Example: No copied stories, song-lyrics etc
Short quotes, or the likes, that don't exceed 4 phrases/lines/sentences are OK.
Copied questionnaires are allowed with a limit of 50 questions. Therefore choose your questions wisely.

Art on the Wiki
Writings
Copying writings to a wiki is OK, as long as you don't claim the material (the wikiname shouldn't suggest it either).
If the owner requests for it to be removed, it will be done so.
Questionnaires longer than 50 questions can be put in wikis as well. See for example questionnaires.

2006-07-10 [Kiddalee]: Whees!!! ***passes out ginger ale*

2006-07-10 [Stray Kitty]: *avoids the carbonated drink* I always manage to laugh while drinking and it hurts.

2006-07-10 [FireDemonAisha]: we should report people who have these stories on ther page and some one should go talk to them, i found one [The Sickness]

2006-07-10 [Stray Kitty]: Hmm, I think that's a bit like harassment. There is a blacklisting for those people.

2006-07-10 [Stray Kitty]: I suppose you could suggest nicely that they make a wiki and link to it, instead of putting it in their house. And if they don't know how to make a wiki or wiki-link you could tell them how. Then they might have a chance of becoming a contributing member of society.

2006-07-10 [iippo]: Kidda, consider exporting the motorcycle story -wiki as well, since it is linked from here, and outsiders can't access it.

2006-07-10 [Kiddalee]: Oh yeah!

2006-07-11 [Soul Assassin]: well owlie i just got done crewing for a 3man bike relay racing 200 miles from sheep mt to Valdez....they finished in a respectable 9 hrs and 34 min. 2nd place against a field of 4 person teams. just so you know....crewing for a relay is a TON of work....i htought it'd be easy...it's almost as bad as biking it >.<

2006-07-24 [Dark Lullaby]: if you don't like it then dont read it...why should one have to change 'their' page so you people do not have to look at the story. I'm sure all of you have somthing on your page that bothers someone else, but they are just too nice to say anything. I personally like the story...and i think if people like the story they should be allowed to have it on thier page and not have to worry that might become "against the rules."

2006-07-24 [Azuri]: Yea but at least that something that bothers people on our pages is original, which only makes sense in a creativity based community and all. Not to mention useing the pastie stories is basicly stealing because someone wrote them and im pretty sure that person isnt on ET.

2006-07-25 [iippo]: The fact is that you didn't write the story. Who did? You don't know. Does the writer wants you to spread it around? You don't know. Could he sue you for copyright infringement? Yes he could. Have a read in <diary:829651> -- it's something related I read in the paper today.

2006-07-25 [Stray Kitty]: So the reasons for banning it are: It's annoying, slightly like chain mail, and it possibly is illegal.

2006-07-25 [iippo]: Yeah, same rules as random or stolen images have now wouldn't be too unfair.

2006-07-25 [Stray Kitty]: Where should we go first to try to get it banned?

2006-07-25 [iippo]: It's been mentioned in the forums recently (suggestions and patrollers forums are the ones I'm aware of) and the idea f banning them wasn't really welcomed, so to not seem annoying I think it could still spread via wiki for now, not pushing the officials yet. (My opinion only)

2006-07-25 [Stray Kitty]: Okay. That seems reasonable.

2006-07-26 [Amish Hammer]: oh come on folks, banning it is never gonna happen. images are one thing, but once u start saying that ppl are "stealing" the art of that "story" and that it should be cited with the copyright and bs then every other thing ppl post will infringe on it. i'll admit it's annoying, but it's not goin to go away. the fact is, this wiki does nothing more than say, "hey, i think this is annoyingly repetative and ya'll need to come up with something a lil' more origional."

2006-07-26 [Kiddalee]: I beg to differ about whether banning will happen. Actually, it has happened on some communities. One of those is WritersCo.

2006-07-26 [Azuri]: Well how would you like it if someone stole something you worked hard on and claimed it as their own???? Who cares if its a storie its still intellectual property and therefore still STEALING.

2006-07-26 [iippo]: Plus, people said "no one cares about stolen ASCII art, and we'll never start erasing it from everybody's bios" -- yeah, never came faster than we thought and it did happen: ASCII art stealing is now banned, and is only ok when you make it yourself. So I do believe that this will happen sooner or later. Plus, someone might come across this wiki, read about it and come to think of it "yeah, they have a point" and take the story off their bio. This wiki informs people that the story isn't actually as cool as some seem to think, that it's actually fairly stupid. Knowledge is power, and the more people we get to understand about this, the more power we have, possibly eventually enough to...

2006-07-26 [iippo]: ...show the Council and Guards that the stories can and should be banned. Besides, we still offer the chance of linking to the story - have one wiki that has the story on it and people can link to it. That way they'll still have lots of space left on their description to describe themselves.

2006-07-27 [Amish Hammer]: azuri, i doubt someone worked very hard on that. and personally, if i came up with story and saw it on everones house i'd think to myself, "damn, i didin't think that many ppl would like that. holy shit, this is cool, it's everywhere!" As for the fact that it could be banned, i'll admit, it could. i have to say, sumtimes i like seeing that story up. lets me know, with out the actual description iipo wants, that they're a hopeless romantic and probably under 15.

2006-07-27 [Azuri]: You never know. Just because it looks to us that it wasnt very thought out doesnt mean it isnt the pride and joy of someone who worked very hard on it. The storys just annoy me, it was cute the first time or so but then I kept reading it and thinking about how unrealistic it is even for a hopeless romantic(i should know I am one)

2006-07-27 [Moonlit Serenade]: It doesn't matter if it was someone's pride and joy or not. The point is, it is still stolen artwork. I don't think art means drawing or picture. There are so many forms of it. The fact that the Uploading Art Rules don't cover written work as well almost makes me think it wasn't well thought out. If it was a cited source, I could understand it, but no one I've seen has cited it, so it is, in fact, stolen, whether or not the effort put into it (or quality) was great.

2006-07-27 [Amish Hammer]: hell, come to think of it. i think if i'd put my heart and soul into it i'd be even more proud. i can't help but look at this as i would a well circulated joke, meant to be out there in the public domain, meant to inspire, meant to make laugh, whatever. it's all the same in my mind. now, weather the comic who started the dumb blonde or your momma jokes got his due is an argument i don't think i'll ever win or even change sumones view on. especially anyone who's on here fighting for what they think they know. so i'm done polatickin'. my name remains on the list if you'll have me. i just thought i'd throw my two cents in. have a good one ya'll.

2006-07-27 [Cina]: *jumps in* But there are so many stories out there like this one. It reminds me less and less of a good solid piece of writing that someone wrote to take pride in, and more and more of a chain letter someone started with the hopes of seeing how far it would go.

2006-07-27 [iippo]: Aaaand sending chainletters is an offense that can get you banned. So pasting the letter to the bio is different because...?

2006-07-27 [Stray Kitty]: You're not actively sending it to people? Is it against the rules to have chain mail messages in your house? For example if someone decided to post that one about doing certain things to get your crush to kiss you or whatever in their house, would that break the rules?

2006-07-28 [Cina]: I'm not talking about whether or not it's a bannable act. I am talking about whether or not the story should be seen as someone's artwork or as a meaningless message.

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: It's true that you're not crowding peoples' mailboxes. It is slightly less of a waste of their time in your bio, because in a letter, they have to click on it to get rid of that "New Messages" alert, and finding out that it's a chain letter is like getting a hang up noise on your answering machine. But then one could argue that seeing a bio full of chain messages is the same kind of disappointment, only without an alert to get rid of.

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: However, the threat of seeing these things prevents members from pressing the "View A Random Member" button. This prevents us from meeting potential friends who just don't happen to have found the same wikis and forums as us, and causes us to lose our sense of community by forcing us into less flexible cliques.

2006-07-28 [Stray Kitty]: Is it against the rules to post chain mail in the bios? And what makes chain mail chain mail?

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: Chain mail is crap that gets passed on between oodles of people, and doesn't have to, but may contain a line guilt-tripping the reader into passing it on. Also known as Forwards.

2006-07-28 [Darth Jacein]: O.O

2006-07-28 [Stray Kitty]: Much like the motorcycle story.

2006-07-28 [Moonlit Serenade]: The fact that many, many of these stories, and often the motorcycle story, has an added line saying, "If you love someone, pass this on/put this in your bio" makes it a chain of some sort. Of course I love someone, but why should I have to put this on my description to prove it? That's what I hate most about it.

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: A few of these don't traditionally have that line, though. I've seen a lot of annoying forwards that just get sent around anyways.

2006-07-28 [iippo]: Well, having "text crap" in the bio is reportable. For example, a bio full of repeated "fuck u fuck u" or even something nicer like "I love ville I love Ville" does get deleted by the guards. So not only is the text stolen and unoriginal, it could also be seen as useless filler or "text crap" like chain messages are.

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: Now that is a good argument. Well, I think so, anyways.

2006-07-28 [Azuri]: *nods* I didnt know that could be reported

2006-07-28 [Stray Kitty]: Does what [WHO'S THE DADDY!] has after the type you with you (insert body part here) count as text crap? It's some of those stupid little things about sex and crap.

2006-07-29 [iippo]: I don't think so, that counts only as a stupid pasted thing as far as I know :/ Should/could we write on the wiki, something like "these are our arguments why the Motorcycle story shouldn't be allowed" because all these commetns with the arguments get lost in comment history?

2006-07-29 [Azuri]: Probly should make a page for it. I personally hate the ones that relate to sex particularly as I think they encourage the stupid cyber kids, that and they arent fit for a creative community like ET they belong somewhere like fake

2006-07-29 [iippo]: Something like Why ban stupid pasted things that would be all the pasted stories in general, not just the motorcycle story?

2006-07-29 [Azuri]: Yes, most appropriate. Because by now I think we can all agree we arnt just after the Motocycle story but the rest of the stupid pasted things too

2006-07-29 [iippo]: Ok, I'm writing things there as i remember them, please have a look and help out, I can't remember everything. Also point out obvious mistakes there, and comment on the arguments (are they valid etc...)

2006-07-29 [Azuri]: Right^_^ will do!

2006-08-04 [Kiddalee]: Another thing. If a guy says, "My penis is this long: |-----------------------it was much longer than my example-------------|", does the diagram count as text crap?

2006-08-04 [Morrigan {Ψ} Your Siren {Ψ}]: I've never seen that

2006-08-04 [Kiddalee]: It's not a stupid pasted thing. It's just something I've been wondering if I can get some guy in trouble for.

2006-08-04 [Morrigan {Ψ} Your Siren {Ψ}]: oh, well... maybe you could getting him for impersonating or fraud?...

2006-08-04 [iippo]: I don't know either, but I can ask in the patrollers-forum...? Although I don't get it. X_x

2006-08-16 [Dorian Gray]: I can't deny it annoys me to death, but the people should be allowed to have it on their houses... they just shouldn't put 'if you love someone this much you'll post it on your house'... because frankly thats bollocks.

2006-08-16 [iippo]: That's one of the main things that annoys me too about it. And the child abuse -thing is even worse: "paste this stupid poem in your house if you are against child abuse" - yes, my house being poemless obviously means that I encourage parents to kick their children. -_-

2006-08-16 [Azuri]: Oh but it does dont you know *sarcasm* the lot of us will be children beatin abusers >_>

2006-08-16 [iippo]: Loveless, children-beating, gay-hating aborter people, even. :P

2006-08-16 [Azuri]: Yup yup XD

2006-08-17 [Rainbow Dragonflies]: We're Real
I added your page to the list of Other Great Wiki's.

^_^

2006-08-23 [Nebka]: How many do we before this is finished again?

2006-08-23 [iippo]: What is finished? :O

2006-08-23 [Nebka]: Ya know what, never mind. It's nothing.

2006-08-23 [Kiddalee]: These stories are far more suited to blogs than bios. Why people don't put them there is beyond me. I hope it's not just because the story told them to paste it in their bio.

2006-08-25 [iippo]: Would that be a good thing to add to he why ban stupid pasted things-wiki?

2006-08-26 [Stray Kitty]: Sure, go right ahead.

2006-08-28 [Kiddalee]: Well, I suppose I'll need to give the reason why they're more suited to blogs. Because blogs don't have such a permanent character. You read the story once. Your heart breaks. You get over it. The next day, the user puts up something different, and the story that has nothing to do with their identity, but just happened to be interesting, eventually fades away.
But your bio has a more permanent character. I don't mean that it is permanent, but it certainly isn't as fluid as your blog. In that case, it should reveal your identity, which I'm hoping is not some random fluctuation in your emotions you felt today due to reading some stupid pasted thing.

2006-08-29 [iippo]: Thank you, that's exactly what was needed. I agreed with you that they belong to blogs but couldn't put into words why. I'll add it to the arguments. :)

2006-09-01 [Kiddalee]: Whee! :D

2006-09-05 [Soul Assassin]: all the names are getting long!

2006-09-05 [iippo]: You mean the red tex when you edit the page? That can actually be ignored for a very long time until the wiki itself gets too big to accept any more text, so don't worry. The text is there to remind very busy and very big wikis to chop it down, since frequently edited huge wikis make trouble for ET's computer. Wikis like very popular role-plays, where the old postings don't matter (they don't read the whole thing throgh very often). This wiki isn't edited very often, so it isn't exactly necessary to chop it... Sure, another name wiki can be made if it sounds like a better option, but it's not necessary. :)

2006-09-05 [Shadow_Thief]: I think she just meant that it was long to scroll through...or that there were a lot of names..

2006-09-09 [Soul Assassin]: i meant the sheer amount of names was becoming exciting.

2006-09-09 [Nite_Owl]: I would suggest creating a new page for members 1-100 and then continue the list for 101-125 until 200 and then 300 etc. etc....that way it'll make it easier to read and navigate the page :)

2006-09-09 [Stray Kitty]: Okay, that sounds like a good idea. Who wants to make the wiki pages?

2006-09-09 [Moonlit Serenade]: I can do it.

2006-09-09 [Moonlit Serenade]: There you go. Page 201-300 is made, but I didn't link it since 101-200 isn't full. But the link is on the member's page. If it gets full, I'll make another. ^-^

2006-09-10 [Stray Kitty]: Thank you!

2006-09-10 [Moonlit Serenade]: My pleasure! Anything I can do to help.

2006-09-10 [iippo]: From now on there will be less edits on this page, and less action, so lets kick up a discussion to keep things lively. :P

2006-09-10 [Nite_Owl]: so um.....how's the weather everyone? (^,~)

2006-09-10 [Lady_Elowyn]: sunny, a few fluffy white clouds, clear blue sky. Quite beautiful, really.

2006-09-10 [Nite_Owl]: It's actually pretty damn nice out right now. Not even 90 degrees yet :D Though it is rather smoky from the nearby fires...the other day you couldn't hardly see the sky, and the sun was red too. Kinda cool hehehe

2006-09-10 [Lady_Elowyn]: lol, wish I coulda seen that. The temp here is only 60

2006-09-10 [Nite_Owl]: bleh...I really wish it was winter already here....I like it so much better when it's cold, because at least then you can warm yourself up a bit, but when it's 100 out there you can't do shit to cool off -_-' 60-70 is a perfect temperature to me

2006-09-10 [Kai Crewger]: indeed

2006-09-10 [Lady_Elowyn]: Yeah. 70-80 is what I like. But I agree, it's a lot easier to warm up than to cool off.

2006-09-10 [The Coffee-Prophet]: Winter is nice because few things beat watching people freeze their ass of while you're nice and warm. That's why I have an extremely heavy and isolated jacket from october to roughly april.

2006-09-10 [Kai Crewger]: yes, yes. ^^ cept with me it's walking in to school in a light jacket and tshirt and laughing at everyone with a huge bulky coat

2006-09-10 [Nite_Owl]: The only bad thing about winter here is that it's always rather depressing to think you never get a white Christmas--or white anytime, actually. I've yet to see snow on Christmas though.

2006-09-10 [The Coffee-Prophet]: So in other words we're like fire and water then?

2006-09-10 [Lady_Elowyn]: Eh. We almost always have snow on Christmas. Usually.

2006-09-10 [Nite_Owl]: Yis well...that's because I live in southwestern USA, soutern California. It snows here about once every 4 years or so. Last years was a miracle and it snowed twice in two years :D lol

2006-09-10 [Kai Crewger]: I suppose :D

2006-09-10 [Lady_Elowyn]: lol, cool...

2006-09-11 [Kiddalee]: oOoo! I didn't realize we were getting full enough to break it up.

2006-09-11 [Shadow_Thief]: Whee that's the great thing about living in alaska...we get winters with snow. I love snow...

2006-09-11 [iippo]: I live in Finland and I hate snow... x_X

2006-09-11 [The Coffee-Prophet]: Norway here, Snow is overrated, but not so bad if viewed from the inside of a warm and cozy house.

2006-09-11 [Kai Crewger]: haha, I live in midwest usa. I only love snow when I don't have to shovel it

2006-09-11 [Nite_Owl]: Ooooh, Alaska...I thought very few people actually lived in Alaska? Perhaps I was wrong...or maybe you're just one of the few? I'd love to see Alaska in the winter--I'm rather curious about the darkness all day there. We've been twice, but in summer, and the sun is not my friend -_-'

2006-09-11 [Shadow_Thief]: Hehehe yah, at the shortest time of the year we get...like 4 hours of daylight where I live. In Barrow, they get...dun dun dun...0! haha. And people live here, but it's very few in relation to the landsize/population ratio. The population where I live is 300,000.

2006-09-12 [Silver Phantoms]: I've visted Alaska, I really want to go back, it was beautiful, :)

2006-09-12 [Stray Kitty]: Lucky. me and my dad are planning on going up this summer. First we're going to have to sell the stupid truck and the Trooper. Then we need to find a van/bus/camper thing that we either drive up for someone or try to sell up there. I'm a bit wary of the food thing though. He kept muttering phrases like 'live off the land' and ;hunt our own'. << >>

2006-09-12 [Shadow_Thief]: lol! if you're in a city, you can't live off the land, and plus there's hunting seasons and stuff for anything big. unless you're planning on living on little birdies...What part of AK you going to?

2006-09-12 [Caritas]: I've always wanted to go to Alaska. In a few years, I'm going to get two tickets and go on a cruse to Alaska with my Ma.

2006-09-13 [Stray Kitty]: I'm not sure.

2006-09-16 [Kiddalee]: Hmm, if it's just the two of you, I don't see why you'd need to hunt anything big. Still, how experienced is he? Was he kidding?

2006-09-16 [Shadow_Thief]: yeah..there's lots of towns here..and roads, and plus you can pack food...

2006-09-21 [Soul Assassin]: cruises suck ass. tourists may pay a shitload of our taxes but so many are rich assholes and their companies are trashing our state....glad you guys want to come though. we're willing to share w. those willing to treat it w. respect :P hey shadow, fancy seeing you here ;)

2006-09-21 [Stray Kitty]: Dad was in boy scouts. So he probably knows about tying knots. Hunting... I'm not sure.

2006-09-21 [Angelically Broken]: my brother was in boy scouts and they didn't teach hunting skills.. at least i don't think... idk i can't remember it was too long ago... lol

2006-09-21 [Stray Kitty]: Well, my dad dislikes guns, and probably has never handled a bow and arrow in his life. So I think that I will be packing the food. We want to see the glaciers (before the melt), a wolf, and I want to go to Nome. You see I got into an arguement with this cellist (Anthony) about how I'll never got to Rome if because the violin isn't classy enough. I told him that I didn't want to go to Rome, I wanted to go to Nome. There was a bit of confusion because the sound similar when shouted. All roads lead to Rome, but no roads lead to Nome.

2006-09-21 [iippo]: XD
I've heard that the bow and arrow are actually less nature-friendly than a gun, since a gunshot hits so fast that it causes the animal to go into shock so it doesn't feel pain, the arrow is slower so no shock, and anything than a perfect hit to the heart will be extremely excruciating to the animal.

2006-09-21 [The Coffee-Prophet]: That is, unless you have exploding arrowheads, in which case, hunting would be pretty pointless, at least for the meat... and the trophy... and the silent time with yourself... well, at least you'll have the smell of burnt hair and flesh... yuck.

2006-09-21 [Kai Crewger]: I think really the point behind some people preferring the bow and arrow over guns is that the bow actually takes skill to use, whereas a gun is more of a point and go-claim-your-prize type thing.

2006-09-21 [Lady_Elowyn]: I disagree. A gun is loud, yes, but the chances of actually getting a shot at your game isn't that great. At least not in my experience. I'm a hunter, and I've only seen a deer once. And I was so nervous and excited I never got to shoot before it got away. Trust me, it isn't just point- and-kill. There is some aim involved.

But just out of curiosity, is there any point to this discussion?

2006-09-21 [Blaithin]: I agree it isn't point and kill but if you live in an actual rural area it doesn't take much skill to hunt with a gun.

There's so many deer, both mule and jumper, antelope, moose, coyote and many other things here that, with the distance guns are capable of, it's not hard to fill up tags at all. It's only when people get picky about how big a rack they want that it can become difficult and that's not from lack of sitings just lack of proper sitings. With a bow you have to be much closer which is hard to do with any wild animal.

2006-09-21 [Lady_Elowyn]: Well, ,maybe it's just my area, or my luck.... I, for one, am not particularly worried about size. I just want one. That would make me happy. I've never actually succeeded in filling a tag.

2006-09-21 [Kai Crewger]: well, guns do take skill, but when it comes right down to it you have to admit that it takes more to be competent with a bow than it does with a gun.

2006-09-21 [Angelically Broken]: yea, especially crossbows, they are hard to cock, and when you fire it you have to watch were your fingers are or they'll get hurt REALLY badly

2006-09-22 [Lady_Elowyn]: yeah. I agree, a bow takes more skill and strength. But still, guns aren't exactly easy.

2006-09-22 [Kai Crewger]: agreed

2006-09-22 [Stray Kitty]: Either way, I'm still packing food. I think I'm just as bad with a bow and arrow as I am with a gun. Except guns make me uneasy. I just hope that Dad brings a guide to the local plant life. Don't trust the mushrooms.

2006-09-22 [Kiddalee]: I've gotten close enough to shoot a deer with a bow before. That's probably because there's no hunting in that nook where she was, and she was curious enough to let me see her.

2006-09-22 [iippo]: So it doesn't matter if the animal suffers or no, as long as you get to show skill? o.O

2006-09-22 [Blaithin]: Suffer? If you know how to use a bow properly it's generally more consistent and a quicker and cleaner death than a gun.

2006-09-22 [iippo]: That's not what I've read (from a nature magazine) *points to comment above* "Anything than a perfect hit won't kill instantly nor will cause the shock that a firearm does."

2006-09-22 [Blaithin]: That's why I said if you know how to use a bow ;) Another way to look at it is survival rate as well. If someone is shat with a bow, it may cause more initial pain than a gun but the animal stands a much better chance of surviving a pot bow shot than a bad gun shot. Each situation is different though.

2006-09-23 [Stray Kitty]: In Africa packs of wild dogs eat their prey, while it's still alive.
Anyways, the things I might be going after would be lemming sized or maybe a ground squirell.

2006-09-23 [Angelically Broken]: ... what's a lemming?

2006-09-23 [Stray Kitty]: A small rodent that lives in the tundra, usually runs off cliffs in mass. They're not terribly bright. But wolves eat them...

2006-09-23 [Angelically Broken]: oh.. cool... i like wolves and anyone who kills one for any reason should be killed too..

2006-09-23 [Stray Kitty]: The govern of Alaska is trying (so far he's failed) to make wolf hunting legal again.
A boy won a contest for an essay stating how that the wolves always take the biggest and strongest of the elk from the herds. He got to have lunch with the govener.

2006-09-23 [Angelically Broken]: that is just wrong...

2006-09-23 [Stray Kitty]: I know.

2006-09-23 [Shadow_Thief]: Thats a load of shit. W. Bush wanted to make aerial wolf hunting legal, which is again, a load of shit. theres no way in the winter they can avoid aerial shooting. bastards.

2006-09-23 [iippo]: "animal stands a much better chance of surviving a pot bow shot than a bad gun shot" - if you injure the animal, you have to go catch it! That's torture if you just shoot it and let it go! A predator will smell the blood and go after it, and it'll have no chance! If you go hunt you have make it not take it! -_-;;;

And the wolf-thign... Stop being so ignorant -_-;;;;; My neighbour's dog was attacked by a wolf, because they're getting to be too damn many. Any hunting if done too much is bad, but the wolf has no natural enemies, if there are no wolf hunting at all, they will get too close to human settlement (they already do in Finland). Those "aww, wolf, cute, save it!" -comments really piss off people who have to live with the fact that their child might die because people think wolves are cute. If there are too many wolves, they won't catch enough natural prey and they'll go after human settlement (sheep, pets, reindeers, children, etc...) and that is only going to make the local population really scared and angry and they'll kill the wolves illegally.
Idealising nature (I know, Disney's fault) makes no sense. Nature is not admirable, it is cold, cruel, survival of the fittest and I really hope humans could see it as it is and know you are above it. Respect for nature is one thing, thinking that wolves go before humans is bs.

I'm really shocked now of all these comments, it sounds like you didn't go to school at all, you're just willing to cause all this suffering to animals and people... I'm really disturbed now. The wild is no different in different countries, yet the attitude is, I can't believe this...

2006-09-23 [Angelically Broken]: No, there's not getting to be so many wolves. It's that there are getting to be too many humans. Humans are invading their natural environment and territory. Humans are also taking away the wolves natural prey items, and they are forced to kill other prey items that would be found naturally in their environment, even if the animal they kill is a pet or part of a farmers herd. Humans don't have survival of the fittest but I think that we should, there are way too many humans in the world. We are taking up too much space, taking away from nature, ruining natural environments for our special needs and wants (most people don't realize how bad humans actually are for this world). It's not natures's fault it's the human's fault.

Wolves were here before humans. They are extremely smart. they can recognize specific individuals just through the smell of the individuals urine, and howl. They can recognize the most obscure movements and changes in body language and know exactly how the other wolf is feeling or thinking. Last time I checked humans can't do that...

The wild is alot different in different countries, do you not go outside? Do you not see nature programs? I think you are the one who is ignorant and not those of us who care about nature... The feelings toward nature is not neccessarily different in different countries it is different based on the individual.. This is nature, GET USED TO IT!! It's never going to just go away..

2006-09-23 [iippo]: Alright, we'll start with your family, how about that? Then your friends: "outta the way, there are too many people and some need to be sacrificed, so you will die now, you're not fit enough for this world, and it is the survival of the fittest." Sound ok? Who would volunteer to make that sarcifice? Luckily, that's not how humans act because humans have a sense of moral code, something that no animal will ever have, humans have feelings and compassion, something that animals will never have.

And I'm not saying anything like "exploit the nature, destroy all animals" - there is an inbetween: everything to be done for the betterment of human living. Destroying biological diversity is, shockingly, bad for humans as well, on the long run.

And I don't mean nature is different as in different habitats around the world, of course it is versatile. But there are no singing Disney-bunnies anywhere on this earth, all the wild nature out there is just that: wild and uncaring. People personify it and consider it to be above humans. The wolf is so intelligent, so what? Does that mean that a slug isn't a worthy part of nature? Is it just the intelligent life forms that you idealise? And note: humans are more intelligent, so if you'd use the intelligence here to determine who is worthiest, humans would be the top of the heap.

In English, the word for hunting and going about in the forest is "game". In Finnish we call it "forest nurturing" or "taking care of the forest". The word does make the attitudes different (like you can see in the British fox hunting, which is done for fun, not for the betterment of nature.)

2006-09-23 [Shadow_Thief]: Alright, first of all, you could have said that in a much more polite way. I'll ignore that fact.

I don't "idealize" nature. It's not Disney's fault, I don't even watch Disney movies, and I didn't when I was a kid. The wolves aren't going to start attacking people here now. What Bush was talking about wasn't killing or hunting in moderation. He was talking about a free for all slaughter, in which hunters could go out and kill lots of wolves, not just one or two here and there.

Just because "humans would be top of the heap", doesn't give us the right to go slaughter all the wildlife out there. And believe me, I know that it's wild. I know a fair ammount about the animals in Alaska, and I most assuredly know they aren't "singing Disney-bunnies" (although we are overrun with bunnies this summer <_<)

My only point was, give the wolves a fucking CHANCE! Aerial hunting is not giving them a chance. They have no possible escape from planes. Theres no where for them to hide, or run to. If you want to hunt wolves in the wolf hunting season, go for it. I don't like killing wolves, I don't like other people killing wolves, but at least if you ARE going to kill them, do it from the ground.

2006-09-23 [iippo]: I made no comment on what your president is doing or planning, not once. I am talking about your comment: "i like wolves and anyone who kills one for any reason should be killed too.." Really? If your friend runs over a wolf by accident, he should be killed? And as I understood it, Bush is for capital punishment, just like you are in that comment (and for a lesser crime, too).

2006-09-23 [Shadow_Thief]: what? I never said that! that wasn't me...

2006-09-23 [iippo]: Sorry then, my mistake. But that's what I was talking about all this time.

2006-09-23 [Shadow_Thief]: Alright. I was talking about aerial wolf hunting, so I guess we're on two different topics.

2006-09-23 [Stray Kitty]: Also in America there have been no reported and creditable instances of wolves attacking people, unless they were provoked or had rabies.
Also Disney does not idealize wolves. Quite the opposite. Wolves in Disney movies are shown as vicious and bloody-thirtsty as well as stupid.

2006-09-23 [Shadow_Thief]: Well actually yes, there have been wolf attacks, at least in here in Alaska. It's just, it's not common, and they don't randomly go around attacking humans.

2006-09-23 [Angelically Broken]: People have their own opinions and I'm not going to try to change any of them...

2006-09-23 [Stray Kitty]: But were they provoked wolf attacks.

2006-09-23 [Cina]: Listen, everyone. This is kind of getting out of hand. What does this have to do with the wiki?! Not only is your conversation long winded, has no 'right' or 'wrong' answer, but it is also ceasing conversation about the topic of the wiki; could you switch to private messages, or a different wiki, maybe, please?

2006-09-23 [Stray Kitty]: Point taken.

2006-09-25 [Kiddalee]: Aww, darn. I missed it. I had something to say, too :(

2006-09-25 [Moonlit Serenade]: You make me happy, Cina.

2006-09-25 [Cina]: I make you happy? Yay!

2006-09-29 [Kiddalee]: *gives everyone free motorcycle pins to show they support the cause*

2006-09-29 [Moonlit Serenade]: Perhaps you should give us free motorcycles. :P

2006-09-29 [Cina]: I second that

2006-10-01 [Soul Assassin]: i (third?) that...

2006-10-02 [Seamus Schwathe]: I fourth it.

2006-10-02 [Moonlit Serenade]: Methinks I've started a minor revolution. >> << >>

2006-10-02 [Seamus Schwathe]: All revolutions are best on two wheels!!!!!!

2006-10-02 [Shadow_Thief]: hehe anything is best on two wheels :P

2006-10-02 [The Coffee-Prophet]: Maybe except four-wheelers

2006-10-02 [Seamus Schwathe]: PAH! Three-wheelers are more fun!

2006-10-02 [Kai Crewger]: dude, you know what was awesome? Big Wheels. Those gigantor cheap plastic trikes you had when you were like five. I used to love those.

2006-10-02 [Lady_Elowyn]: Oh yeah, I remember those! I always wanted one of the pink barbie jeeps. Until I came to my senses and realized just how disturbing and evil both pink and evil are.

2006-10-02 [Cina]: Oh man, I wore out the front tire on so many bigwheels. My brothers did theirs, too. They'd ride down the hill by our house and then slam on the breaks halfway down and just scrape the tire along the sidewalk for a few houses. Left huge purple lines on the sidewalk.

2006-10-02 [Kai Crewger]: XD yeah. I'd rattle around the entire neighborhood on mine, and I always stole my bro's cuz his was cool and blue and green, while mine was a sort of hideous purple and pink combination

2006-10-02 [Stray Kitty]: I never had one of those. Ever. Unless you count the 50-some year old wagon. But the only thing it was good for was going down the driveway in. And this was a very steep driveway.
So is anyone here going to enter the Banner contest?

2006-10-03 [Kai Crewger]: I would, but I'm not so great at motorcycles. gomen

2006-10-03 [Cina]: If I get some spare time, I can start working on a banner!

2006-11-06 [MatchBookRom3o]: Someone should check out the Random Corny Romanticism page

2006-11-28 [Seamus Schwathe]: I've lost my drawing hand because I spent too long without creating art. *sniffs*

2007-01-01 [Kiddalee]: Ack! *massages [Seamus Schwathe]'s hands*

2007-01-02 [Angelically Broken]: awww :( that sucks

2007-01-03 [Seamus Schwathe]: It's all right. I've been photographing, so my eye is still good. An so's the massage. ^_^

2007-01-03 [Angelically Broken]: hehe, that's good to hear then ^-^

2007-01-08 [got my 600rr]: hey u know i ride a motorcycle every day it is my only way around with out walkin and this story means some thing to me cuz i have had many gurls that i have cared about on the back of my bike and what the guy did is just what i would do well the gurl would have had the helm on to start with but still like i say this story hits me deep cuz u never know it mite me me in the paper the next day

2007-01-08 [iippo]: You do realise that the story says that he rides the bike 90 mph on an urban area with just one helmet between the two people? There is a way for him to prevent from becoming that newsitem: don't do that, it's not smart! It's dangerous! O_ò
I don't deny that the story is touching - the first time around. But it doesn't mean anything in an Elfhouse, which is about a description of the member.

2007-01-09 [Cina]: Just because you ride a motorcycle doesn't mean it hits deeper. I've been riding motorcycles since I was four-on the back of my fathers to start out with. If anything this stupid story makes me angry because I couldn't count the inaccuracies on one hand. Besides that, every rider should know the risk when they get on. Motorcycle deaths aren't romantic. And they usually aren't due to part failures.

2007-01-12 [Isolated Incognito]: hrmmmmm.... maybe that guy should have been you... than it might have meant even more :P

2007-01-16 [gez]: ok, i don't ride a bike, i just drive a car, so maybe i don't know what i'm talking about but; why doesn't the guy just engine break? or something?

2007-01-16 [Cina]: Yes, he could have at least coasted to a stop once he found out his breaks weren't working. If he had enough time to have his girl take his helmet and give him a hug, he had enough time to coast at least to a safer speed to steer away from the randomly placed brick building.

2007-01-16 [Nite_Owl]: True that. I'd think it'd be somewhat difficult to run into a rather large and forboding building, even if you were going at 90 mph. Maybe he just should've drove, instead of distracting himself from the road by the random things his girlfriend did, which then forced him to veer into the building. Either way it happened, the girlfriend wouldn't've survived anyways (>,<)

2007-01-16 [Cina]: The thing is, it says they're going 90 MPH 'on the highway'. There aren't many brick buildings in the middle of the highway, and it's very hard to get up to 90 in the city on dead-end roads.

2007-01-16 [Nite_Owl]: Also quite true. I haven't actually read the story in a while, I forgot the details

2007-01-22 [Seamus Schwathe]: Maybe they crashed into a bridge column like Princess Diana... made of brick?

2007-01-22 [iippo]: It mentions building *shrugs* but then again, it's a made up story, nobody really crashed into anything.

2007-02-23 [manwe]: 1st: i agree that it is a most sickening load of crap. it was never true and was made up by a girl trying to get a guy.
2nd: not EVERYone has put it on thier page. i never have, never will. don't paint with shuch a broad stroke....
3rd: there is a certain freedom of stupidity and ignorance that NO amount of legislation can prevent. good luck on your quest, but you are tilting at windmills.

2007-02-23 [Cina]: Oh, come now. Everyone needs a useless cause to rant about!

2007-02-24 [Nite_Owl]: *nod* I'll have to agree with Cina on that one--without useless causes to argue on when the old stuff gets dull, life is just short of meaningless, heh.

2007-02-24 [iippo]: Sides, everyone keeps saying how single little people can't save the world. But we can get a group of little people and start with our corner of the world. In essence: everyone can make their own life a little better. And if everyone did that, the world would get a little better. And having common sense and not falling for every piece of sentimental crap is helping in making the world a better place. Not pasting the motorcycle story into your ET description is a little thing, but it helps a bit. So someone who has it in their house, because they are a romantic soul, comes and reads this wiki or any other similar wikipages that actually give reasons why the story is annoying might actually heed what's being said and do something else with their bio that's more creative while still showing what a romantic person they are. <-- making their own life a little better.

I also suppose it's a little bit a question of conforming. And a vast part of ET's population doesn't conform to offline society's standards (artists, writers, goths, etc...) So the motorcycle story might, to some, feel like that conformist world of the outside-ET is trying to get in here. Or some might feel the need to conform to the motorcycle story because they don't conform to things offline. (I use the word conforming in its negative meaning, I do know that kind of conforming is an important aspect of an individuals maturation).

2007-02-24 [Nite_Owl]: If you added up all the people in American that don't vote in the Presidential election because "that one vote wouldn't make a difference", there'd be a HUGE fluctuation in the polls' outcome.

At our school, there was a riot against the new WalMart they're building, but a lot of people showed up just because they thought that even if they didn't there'd still be plenty others to support it. But when the few people that did show up got there, there were enough people that stayed and they left, so instead of a few hundred (like was planned) there was only about 35 or so. You should always try to make things a little better, even if just a little, or even if you think that one vote or person won't change anything, because if everyone that wanted to pitched in it would make a lot bigger impact on other people to join up with the cause. So, I don't think that what we're doing is especially pointless. It must get to someone, because there's plenty of members here :D

2007-07-08 [kittykittykitty]: Just wanted to make sure everyone got this ;) From the Uploading Art Rules:

Yay! :D Success

2007-07-10 [Seamus Schwathe]: Ah, life is good.

2007-07-10 [Stray Kitty]: So, should we continue with the wiki?

2007-07-10 [iippo]: It has reached it's purpose I think. LEave it as it is, maybe... or put a little note rejoicing about the update and a link to the story on a wiki (to which people can link to from their houses)

2007-07-10 [Stray Kitty]: Okay.
Which date? The date of the announcement or the date when the rule goes into effect.

2007-07-11 [iippo]: Date for what? o.O

2007-07-16 [pelv13]: the date that the changes the uploading art rules will go into effect...

2008-09-25 [Thunder Cid]: Cids rants about things that suck
Your gonna love it.

2010-02-07 [pelv13]: so has anyone even seen this lately? the story that is
